Eagle Scout
Boy Scouts of America
Earning Eagle Scout wasn't about collecting badges — it was about learning that leadership means showing up when it's hard, not just when it's convenient.
The Story
I started Scouting because my friends were doing it. I stayed because I discovered something I didn't expect: I liked building things, solving problems, and helping people figure out how to work together. The camping and hiking were great, but the real education happened in between — learning to plan, to adapt when plans fail, and to take responsibility for outcomes.
My Eagle project taught me more about project management than any class ever did. Coordinating volunteers, managing materials, hitting deadlines — all while learning that "leading" mostly means listening, adjusting, and doing the unglamorous work that keeps everything moving.
What Scouting Taught Me
- Leadership is service, not authority
- Preparation prevents panic (most of the time)
- The best teams are built on trust, not hierarchy
- Finishing what you start matters more than starting something impressive
